Shoosmiths has appointed Oscar Tang as a Partner in its Privacy & Data team to enhance digital regulation expertise across key sectors including Technology & AI
Shoosmiths has announced the strategic hire of Oscar Tang as a Partner in its Privacy & Data team, signalling an expansion of the firm's digital regulation capabilities. Tang will be dividing his time between the firm’s London and Brussels offices, reinforcing its positions in key areas of digital and platform regulation. With over a decade of experience, Oscar joins Shoosmiths from Clifford Chance, where he advised a diverse range of clients on regulatory frameworks governing online safety and cybersecurity. His extensive portfolio includes major global technology platforms, financial institutions, and businesses in industries such as media, aerospace, and electronics.
Robin Webb, Partner and head of Shoosmiths’ Commercial Group, expressed enthusiasm about Tang's addition, saying “We’re thrilled to welcome Oscar to Shoosmiths". He emphasised the firm's commitment to addressing the growing demand for services linked to cybersecurity and AI, stating that Oscar's track record with complex global mandates aligns with the firm’s 2030 growth strategy. Tang's expertise also extends to advising clients based in the Asia Pacific region, enhancing Shoosmiths’ capacity for international mandates.
Commenting on his new role, Oscar noted “Most of the rules governing our online lives and digital platforms are being written as we speak". He highlighted the necessary intersection of legal knowledge and technology, indicating that Shoosmiths is at the forefront of addressing these evolving challenges. This strategic hire comes amidst Shoosmiths’ impressive growth trajectory, marked by the recruitment of 17 partners since April 2025, including lawyers with expertise in AI and technology. Such appointments are indicative of the firm’s focus on bolstering its capabilities to manage both national and international projects, ensuring it stays competitive in a rapidly changing environment.
