Eversheds Sutherland welcomes Helen Hallam as partner

Eversheds Sutherland enhances its insurance practice by appointing Helen Hallam as a partner in London
Eversheds Sutherland has announced the expansion of its insurance team with the hiring of Helen Hallam as a partner in their London office. Helen joins from Canada Life Limited, where she spent over eight years in key in-house roles, notably as Lead Counsel on insurance-led corporate finance transactions. Her extensive experience includes advising on bulk annuities, reinsurance, and capital activities. In this role, she has navigated a range of complex matters such as pensions risk transfer transactions and insurance business transfers, showcasing her ability to handle high-value and intricate deals with multiple stakeholders.
Helen's career also features significant private practice experience, training and qualifying at a leading international law firm before becoming a senior associate in their financial institutions practice. There, she provided counsel on corporate and regulatory insurance issues, engaging with clients that include insurers, reinsurers, and pension schemes on various financial structures. Now based in London, she is set to collaborate closely with colleagues across Eversheds Sutherland’s insurance and pensions groups.
Antony Walsh, Partner and International Head of Corporate at Eversheds Sutherland, expressed that this hire reflects a sustained focus on expanding the firm’s corporate finance and insurance capabilities. He noted, “Helen’s background spans both private practice and in-house roles, giving her a strong understanding of how corporate finance, capital management and risk transfer interact in practice.” Meanwhile, Martin Mankabady, Partner and Global Co-head of the Insurance Group, highlighted the significance of Helen's prior experience, stating, “Helen brings a highly valued perspective from having operated at the heart of a major insurer.” He also pointed out the burgeoning pension de-risking market, projected to reach £70bn in transaction values annually in the UK, as a vital context for her role.
Helen herself remarked, “I’m delighted to be joining Eversheds Sutherland, a firm I have enjoyed working closely with for many years,” expressing enthusiasm about contributing to the firm’s strong reputation and delivering practical advice that leads to successful commercial outcomes. She looks forward to cooperating with colleagues to assist clients in navigating today’s fast-paced and competitive market environment.
