Thomson Hayton Winkley boosts family law team

Cumbria law firm Thomson Hayton Winkley (THW) has expanded its family law team by welcoming family solicitor Jordan Wallace, who previously worked at Laker Legal Solicitors in Lancaster. Now based at THW’s head office in Kendal, Wallace joins veteran family paralegal Jayne Grassing, who has dedicated over 20 years to the firm. With over a decade of legal knowledge, Wallace advises on various family law matters including divorces, finances, domestic abuse, child-related issues, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, cohabitation, and separation agreements, as well as Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act (TOLATA) cases.

His recruitment follows the recent arrivals of Nina Hood, who heads the residential property team and Phil Capstick, a specialist in litigation and dispute resolution. Managing Director Suzie Fisher expressed her enthusiasm, saying “Jordan’s appointment is an exciting opportunity to strengthen our family offering, develop the department for the future and meet client demand, with a view to further growing the team.”

Wallace reflected on his decision to join THW, stating “THW has a strong reputation for providing legal services with a caring, understanding and client-first approach. When it comes to family law, these are essential.” Emphasising the firm's well-established standing in the area, he added “Joining the firm was too good an opportunity to pass up. The firm is well established and respected in the area, and its values align well with mine.” Wallace looks forward to actively contributing to the growth of the family department, particularly as clients navigate challenging times.

In addition to its base in Kendal, THW operates offices in Windermere and the J36 Rural Auction Centre in Crooklands, where its specialist arm, The Rural Law Practice, is situated. With a team of 55 lawyers and support staff, the firm serves both individuals and commercial clients, notably within the tourism and hospitality sectors, offering a comprehensive range of services from family matters to commercial property transactions.

Earlier this year, Thomson Hayton Winkley and The Rural Law Practice were acquired by MAPD Group, a consortium aimed at enhancing the growth of local law firms nationwide through strategic acquisitions. Founded in 2020 by Brian Cullen and Joanna Kingston-Davies, MAPD stands for Making a Positive Difference, embodying a commitment to strengthening legal services.
