Stephenson Harwood LLP enhances its Energy Transition and Infrastructure practice by welcoming partner Matthew Bodfield to the firm in London
Matthew Bodfield brings with him 20 years of experience in advising clients within the energy transition and infrastructure sectors. His expertise encompasses renewable energy, including solar, onshore wind, and hydro power, alongside broader energy transition assets like battery storage, EV infrastructure, grid stability, and heat pumps. Bodfield's role will involve advising investors, developers, and energy supply companies on various aspects such as acquisitions, disposals, investments, joint ventures, and corporate reorganisations, particularly focusing on early-stage asset acquisitions and developer platforms. Matthew joins from Osborne Clarke, where he served as a partner.
Jonathan Cripps, Head of Energy Transition and Infrastructure at Stephenson Harwood, stated “The UK’s energy transition is fuelling unprecedented growth in renewables, with generation capacity expected to triple over the next decade, compared to the last 15 years. At the same time, surging demand from AI, data centres, and new infrastructure is opening up a wealth of opportunities.” He emphasised that Bodfield’s expertise would enable the firm to better assist clients who are diversifying into a wider range of assets and engaging in projects earlier in their lifecycle.
Tom Nicholls, Head of Corporate at Stephenson Harwood, remarked “Matthew brings an established practice and deep energy sector expertise that will strengthen our Corporate team and broaden its sector reach. His specialist Energy M&A capability is a clear differentiator, which, when combined with the firm’s wider sector relationships, will create significant opportunities for growth and support the development of long-term M&A relationships with our institutional clients.” Today, Energy Transition and Infrastructure represents one of five key strategic areas of focus for Stephenson Harwood, supporting an array of clients through the entire energy transition spectrum across multiple projects and technologies.
