Square One Law invests in Yorkshire

A commercial law firm has made significant strides in Yorkshire with several new appointments and promotions following its relocation to a larger office. Square One Law moved into a 3,000 square foot Grade A office at Leeds 7 Park Row in July 2026, which has facilitated the addition of talented professionals to its team.

The firm welcomed Jill Anderson as a Senior Associate, Jane Johnston as an Associate, and Jonathan Morris, who will join as a Property Associate later this month from Shoosmiths. Alongside these new appointees, Richard Barrett has been made a Partner, while Ben Powell has transitioned from property paralegal to begin his training contract within the firm's property team.

In an impressive development, Dylan Hooper, who joined as a paralegal in October 2023, has successfully qualified this month as a Commercial Property Solicitor after starting his training contract in September 2024, marking him as the first trainee to achieve this milestone in the Leeds office.

Matthew Thompson, Commercial Property Partner and head of the Leeds team at Square One Law, expressed his pride in the firm's progress since opening the Leeds office during the Covid pandemic in 2020 with just two members of staff. He remarked, “It’s fantastic to look at how far we’ve come in six years. We’ve built a brilliant team here in Yorkshire and our move to a new, larger office in the heart of Leeds is a real reflection of that growth.”

Thompson emphasised the firm's ongoing commitment to team investment, stating, “We’re continuing to invest in the team, both through recent promotions and new hires, and the new office gives us the space we need to keep growing while continuing to deliver the high-quality, client-focused service we’ve built our reputation on.” He underlined the importance of offering career development opportunities, highlighting that the recent promotions are a testament to the firm's ethos.

Richard Barrett, who has been with Square One Law since May 2021 as a Property Associate and is now a Partner, also shared his enthusiasm regarding his journey within the firm. “I’m delighted to become a Partner here at Square One Law. I’ve had the opportunity to develop my career while playing a part in growing our presence in Yorkshire, so taking this next step feels particularly significant," Barrett expressed. He looks forward to contributing to the firm's future, stating, “We’ve built a really strong team and there’s a lot more we want to achieve.
