Slaughters hires first ever chief operating officer

Its newly appointed COO will join from a magic circle rival

Magic circle firm, Slaughter and May, has appointed its first ever chief operating officer (COO).

Jill Hoseason, currently glocal chief operating officer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, will join the firm on 1 February.

Hoseason will oversee Slaughters’ operational activities and will provide support to the firm’s recently appointed managing partner, Deborah Finkler. Finkler will step into her role on 1 May 2022, following the planned retirements of practice partner David Wittman and executive partner Paul Stacey.

Slaughters has made several announcements regarding changes to its management structure in recent months, including the planned appointment of Roland Turnill as managing partner in 2024.

Hoseason has spent over 13 years at Freshfields; she spent nine years as head of HR before being appointed as COO in 2014 and then global COO in 2017.
