Sir Richard Broadbent reappointed as HMCTS Chair

Sir Richard Broadbent has been reappointed to lead HMCTS until April 2027 following endorsements from key figures
Sir Richard Broadbent has officially been reappointed as Chair of the HM Courts and Tribunals Service Board, a position he has held since May 2023. This decision comes from the Lord Chancellor, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Lady Chief Justice, and the Senior President of Tribunals. His reappointment will see him continuing in the role for another year, extending his term until 30 April 2027. The HMCTS Board, which Broadbent heads, is instrumental in guiding the strategic direction of the service and ensuring the efficacious implementation of objectives set by judicial leaders. Broadbent’s extensive background includes fifteen years of experience at senior levels in various corporations, including roles as Chairman of Arriva plc and Tesco plc, and Deputy Chairman of Barclays plc. He also served as Chairman of HM Customs and Excise in the public sector. Prior to these leadership positions, he built a career in finance as a corporate advisor and Managing Director at Schroders plc after starting in the Treasury and receiving further education as a Harkness Fellow at Stanford Business School. In addition to his business pursuits, he has made contributions in academia and the third sector, while also managing a small farming operation, showcasing his diverse expertise and commitment to leadership in both the private and public sectors.
