NEW YEAR HONOURS

Lawyers honoured in the new year include Stephen Slack, former chief legal adviser for the Church of England; and professor of law Julia Black who were awarded CBEs. MBEs were given to Christl Hughes, vice president of the Leicestershire Law Society and energy lawyer Jacquelynn Craw. Jonathan Jones QC, head of the Government Legal Department, was appointed knight commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) for public service. Controversial awards included a damehood for former director of public prosecutions Alison Saunders. Retired Crown Prosecution Service lawyer René Barclay was made an OBE for services to law and order. 28 December 2019
