New tool enhances pro bono climate support

The Chancery Lane Project has launched a new tool to aid lawyers in supporting climate action during Pro Bono Week
In a significant move for climate advocacy, The Chancery Lane Project (TCLP) has unveiled a new tool named Review, aimed at facilitating pro bono work for lawyers during Pro Bono Week, which runs from 2 to 6 November. This initiative allows legal professionals to donate just five or ten minutes of their time, as often as possible, to help maintain the accuracy of TCLP's free climate clauses and legal resources. By streamlining the contribution process, TCLP hopes to engage more lawyers who can offer their expertise in brief yet impactful increments.
The Review tool is designed to make pro bono involvement accessible, whether lawyers are between meetings, enjoying a coffee break, or commuting. This innovative application identifies references to laws, regulations, and standards found within TCLP's extensive content. It diligently checks which versions are currently applicable and forwards questions that require further clarification to its pro bono network for collective insight. Offering a straightforward interface, the tool enables lawyers to review a single clear question at a time, allowing responses to be submitted with just a few clicks.
TCLP's resources, which include free climate clauses, glossary terms, and guides, are built upon an extensive foundation of hundreds of legal references. However, a potential risk lies in the rapid evolution of laws and regulations, which can lead to outdated references compromising the utility of these resources for organisations that depend on them. By providing a traceable record of the decisions made by lawyers using the Review tool, TCLP is able to keep track of changes in legal references to ensure that necessary updates are prioritised effectively.
The overarching goal of this initiative is to cultivate a sustainable method for maintaining the relevance and accuracy of TCLP’s resources, ultimately benefiting every organisation that utilises them. By enabling pro bono support in small, regular intervals, The Chancery Lane Project not only simplifies the process for busy lawyers but also reinforces the essential effort towards climate action in the legal realm.
