Legal industry revenues reach new high

UK Legal industry revenues surged to £5.59bn in March, marking the highest monthly revenue recorded
In a remarkable surge, the UK’s legal industry reported revenues of £5.59 billion in March, reflecting a significant 20% increase compared to February's £4.61 billion. This surge not only marks the highest monthly revenue ever for the sector but also represents a 9% increase over March 2025 figures and is 4% higher than the previous record set in December 2025. In contrast, the broader services sector, which encompasses the legal industry, saw a growth of 24% from February to March 2026, while the overall economy recorded a 0.3% growth in March, surpassing expectations.
Julie Norris, Legal Services Regulatory Partner at Kingsley Napley, comments, “March revenues for the legal sector rebounded strongly after a subdued January and February and represent a new sector high. They perhaps reflect a rush of pre-financial year end activity or the fact that some client activity was reportedly bought forward before the longer-term effects of the Iran war are felt. Whatever the explanation, today’s figures suggest the legal sector is in rude health. The question is whether this is sustainable. Firm leaders will have to navigate the choppy economic waters on the horizon for the rest of H1 – rising fuel costs hitting businesses, increased hiring costs as well as the impact of UK political turbulence on our economy -- so a summer of lacklustre economic growth is predicted from which the legal sector is unlikely to be immune.”
The impressive figures come at a time of economic uncertainty, prompting questions about the sustainability of this growth and its implications for the future of the sector.
