Katten expands London office with new partner

Katten strengthens its London office by adding Sunay Radia as a partner in restructuring practice
Katten has announced the appointment of Sunay Radia as a Partner in its London office, boosting its Restructuring practice. Radia joins the firm from McDermott Will & Schulte, bringing a wealth of experience in complex domestic and cross-border restructurings, distressed situations, and enforcement matters. James Davison, Head of the London Restructuring practice, highlighted Radia's extensive background, stating that “Sunay joins us with a wealth of experience, including in cross border and complex financial restructuring and LBO workouts. This complements our transatlantic client offering and further enhances our creditor-side capabilities.”
The London office of Katten has been actively expanding in key practice areas throughout the year, including restructuring, structured finance, and financial markets. This follows earlier appointments such as James Davison and his team from DLA Piper in January, as well as Jennifer Kafcas and Alvino van Schalkwyk from Crowell & Moring in June. Katten has been focused on a deliberate, long-term growth strategy in London as Christopher Hichins, Managing Partner of the London office, noted “London continues to play an important role in the firm’s integrated global platform as we work towards our Katten 2030 strategic plan, which is centered on adding critical mass in priority practices, deepening client relationships, and pursuing strategic growth across the firm.”
Radia’s practice will focus on financial restructuring transactions, including high-yield bond and leveraged finance workouts. He also offers extensive advice on origination banking, acquisition finance, and real estate finance transactions. Steven Reisman, Global Chair of Katten’s Restructuring practice, applauded Radia’s expertise, commenting that “Sunay is a highly regarded restructuring lawyer whose experience advising across the capital structure and on some of the market's most sophisticated restructuring matters will further strengthen our capabilities for clients navigating complex and evolving financial situations.”
Katten’s global Restructuring practice represents a variety of stakeholders in complex restructurings, workouts, bankruptcy proceedings, and distressed situations. Their work involves liability management transactions, recapitalisations, and special situations. The London team's leadership, under James Davison, has recently earned recognition in the Chambers UK 2027 guide, further solidifying Katten’s status as a trusted counsel in the restructuring field. The firm has also received accolades, including being nominated as a Corporate Restructuring & Insolvency Firm to Watch by the Legal 500 UK guide.
