Freeths trainee wins emerging leader award

Freeths’ Maxwell McCartney has been honoured at the Business Hero Awards 2026 for his contributions
Maxwell McCartney, a Trainee Legal Executive at leading law firm Freeths, has been awarded the Yorkshire Emerging Male Leader title at the 2026 Business Hero Awards. This prestigious event celebrates individuals who make a positive impact beyond their core roles, recognising contributions to leadership, community service, and social responsibility throughout the Yorkshire region.
The Yorkshire Emerging Male Leader category is specifically aimed at recognising individuals at an early career stage who showcase exceptional leadership potential, commitment to learning and personal development, and a strong involvement in charitable and community initiatives.
Maxwell’s award reflects his enthusiastic contribution to Freeths’ workplace culture. His involvement extends to charity events, initiatives promoting learning, and activities designed to foster camaraderie among colleagues. Among his notable contributions is his fundraising for Martin House Children’s Hospice, which has been a significant focus for Maxwell and his team.
Judges were particularly impressed with Maxwell's energy, commitment, and apparent leadership skill, emphasising the positive impact he has made both within Freeths and the wider professional landscape.
Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, Maxwell McCartney stated, “Winning Yorkshire Emerging Male Leader is something I never expected, and I’m incredibly grateful. Freeths places such a strong emphasis on charity, inclusion, learning and togetherness, and I’ve been lucky to develop in an environment where junior voices are encouraged and supported. The Leeds office has a real culture of getting involved, particularly through our ongoing support for Martin House Children’s Hospice, as well as across lunches, learning sessions and wider initiatives. I’m thankful for the continued investment the firm makes in its people, and I’m excited to continue building on that momentum.”
This honour follows Maxwell's previous accolade as Professional Services Apprentice of the Year at the 2025 West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards, marking a significant recognition of his early career achievements and promising future.
