Fletchers Group acquires Serious Injury Law

In a strategic move to fortify its position in the legal landscape, Fletchers Group has successfully acquired Serious Injury Law Ltd, renowned specialists in serious personal injury cases. The Bolton-based Serious Injury Law, established in 1989, has earned a stellar reputation as a leader in representing clients facing severe injuries. Notably, the firm has secured numerous multi-million-pound settlements, achieving top-tier recognition from Legal 500.

The equity partners, Tim Walters, Matt Dixon, and Ben Priestley, lead the Serious Injury Law team, bringing a wealth of experience in complex cases, particularly in the realms of court protection and clinical negligence. The acquisition is expected to seamlessly integrate Serious Injury Law into the Fletchers Group, with the retention of the brand and the maintenance of offices in Bolton and Cambridge.

Peter Haden, CEO of Fletchers Group, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating that it strengthens the group's presence in the North West and aligns with the strategy of acquiring outstanding law practices. Haden emphasized the complementary relationships and capabilities of the two teams, foreseeing the creation of the strongest team in the sector.

The integration process is anticipated to conclude by May 1st, with Caroline Morris, Director of Serious Injury, assuming responsibility for the combined serious injury team, which will continue to operate under the SIL brand. Kate Edwards, Director of Private Client, will lead the court of protection team, while the clinical negligence lawyers will become part of the wider Group clinical negligence team.

Tim Walters, from Serious Injury Law, commented on the consolidation trend in the serious injury market, attributing it to reforms and changes in business models. He expressed optimism about joining forces with Fletchers, recognizing the shared values and culture that will facilitate a smooth integration and provide growth opportunities.

Peter Haden highlighted that the combined Group, which includes previous acquisitions like Cycle SOS, Minton Morill, Emsleys’ PI division, and Blume, is well-positioned to support a positive shift in public perception. He referenced the recent Post Office scandal as an example, emphasizing the importance of law firms supporting those with limited power to gain access to justice.

Haden acknowledged the challenges faced by the claimant sector due to reforms and underinvestment in the court system. He expressed confidence that, by scaling up, investing in technology, and continually improving, Fletchers Group can continue to provide exceptional service to injured individuals and ensure their voices are heard in the pursuit of justice. The acquisition of Serious Injury Law is seen as a significant step towards achieving these objectives and contributing to a positive narrative in the legal industry.
