De Gaulle Fleurance boosts legal teams

De Gaulle Fleurance enhances its criminal tax and commercial litigation capabilities with Mathilde Varet's expertise
De Gaulle Fleurance has fortified its criminal tax and commercial litigation teams with the addition of Mathilde Varet as a Senior Associate. With twelve years of legal experience, Varet specialises in advising clients both in France and internationally on a range of issues including criminal and corporate litigation, as well as criminal tax law and civil liability disputes. She is particularly noted for her experience in overseeing investigations related to the French National Financial Prosecutor’s Office and various independent administrative authorities.
Varet's scope of work extends to pre-litigation matters, negotiated proceedings such as CJIP and CRPC, and internal investigations linked to reputation protection, compliance, and the duty of care. Her international background is substantial, having collaborated with both French and foreign entities on cases that extend across courts in Switzerland, Monaco, Africa, Central America, and South America. Her multilingual capabilities allow her to communicate fluently in French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese, which is invaluable in the global legal landscape.
“I see that companies are facing increasingly frequent and aggressive criminal proceedings, particularly in tax matters,” Varet noted. Her observations highlight the complexities executives encounter in high-stakes situations where they may feel overwhelmed, such as during searches or police interviews. “It therefore becomes strategic to equip them with the right reflexes and essential guidelines for dealing with litigation, whether it involves the tax authorities or the criminal justice system.”
According to Vincent Schmitt, a member of the executive committee at De Gaulle Fleurance, Varet’s arrival represents a significant enhancement of their services in corporate tax and criminal law. “With the arrival of Mathilde Varet, De Gaulle Fleurance is strengthening its support in litigation and in corporate tax and criminal law, serving companies both in France and abroad, particularly in Europe, Latin America and Africa, thereby consolidating the full-service approach developed by the group through its various offices.” This strategic enhancement is positioned to address the growing demand for expert legal assistance in complex financial regulations and criminal procedures.
