Bishop & Sewell welcomes David Smith, enhancing its Landlord and Tenant Team with his expertise and insight
Bishop & Sewell, a prominent Central London law firm, has appointed David Smith, a leading solicitor in the Private Rented Sector, as a Partner. Smith, who is known for his specialisation in property litigation, property regulation, and data protection, particularly regarding residential tenancies and agencies, brings a wealth of experience to the firm. Previously serving as the National Residential Landlords Association’s (NRLA) Legal Counsel, he is recognised as an influential author and speaker in the field.
Mark Chick, Senior Partner at Bishop & Sewell, expressed his enthusiasm about Smith's appointment, stating that “David brings a vibrant practice particularly in the short lease area and the Renters Rights Act, and we are extremely pleased he has joined.” He highlighted the added value Smith brings to an already respected team, remarking that “adding David brings a synergistic opportunity to expand in the space and provide our clients with a complete package of support whatever their requirement.”
Having worked across various levels of the civil courts, including the Supreme Court, and represented tenants, landlords, and agents in magistrates and Crown Courts, Smith brings a comprehensive understanding of property law. His extensive experience in the First Tier and Upper Tribunals, where he has contested local authority decisions, further underscores his expertise. Additionally, he is well-regarded for his efforts in mediation, making him a substantial asset to the firm’s existing capabilities.
Upon joining, David Smith said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to add my work areas to this strong property firm. I am really looking forward to working with Mark Chick and the rest of the team offering clients an unrivalled service in this important and expanding legal practice area.” His addition to the team is anticipated to further solidify Bishop & Sewell’s reputation and expertise in landlord and tenant law.
