The inquiry aims to assess tribunal capacity and other proposed measures

The Justice Committee announced on 20 April that it will investigate the work of tribunals that hear asylum and immigration cases, which includes cases dealing with the rights of people to enter or remain in the UK. The Committee’s inquiry will assess the performance of the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) and the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber), which will include an oral evidence session with lawyers and judges working in the aforementioned tribunals. The Committee aims to gain clarity, among other things, on tribunal capacity and may look to question experts about the potential impact of the Nationality and Borders Act and the Illegal Migration Bill.
