Bell Lamb & Joynson expands advocacy team

Darren Jones’ new qualification as a Higher Court Advocate enhances in-house representation for criminal cases across the region
Bell Lamb & Joynson Solicitors has bolstered its advocacy team with the qualification of Criminal Defence Solicitor Darren Jones as a Higher Court Advocate. This prestigious qualification enables Darren to represent clients in the Crown Court, ensuring continuity throughout criminal proceedings from police station attendance to trial and appeal. With this addition, the firm now boasts 10 Higher Court Advocates and Barristers within its Criminal Defence Department, enhancing its capacity to provide consistent in-house representation for complex criminal matters.
Darren Jones, who completed his LLB and Legal Practice Course at the University of Staffordshire, has specialised in Criminal Defence and Motoring Law since qualifying as a Solicitor in January 2004. Over two decades, he has represented clients in a broad array of criminal cases and earned a reputation for his calm approach and strong courtroom presence, making him a key member of the Criminal Defence Team. Reflecting on his recent achievement, Darren said “I didn’t expect to be sitting any more exams at my age, but I wanted to prove to myself that I could still do it. I couldn’t have achieved this without the support of Bell Lamb & Joynson, for which I am incredibly grateful. I have many years of advocacy experience behind me, so I feel confident in my ability, but this is still a new chapter for me. It just goes to show you are never too old to learn something new.” His successful qualification followed a rigorous examination process that included both written and advocacy assessments.
The Criminal Defence Department, which includes 16 Duty Solicitors and a dedicated team of Paralegals and Police Station Representatives, offers extensive coverage and rapid support across the North West. Bell Lamb & Joynson stands out as one of the region's largest Criminal Defence firms by volume of instructions, currently holding the top ranking locally on Review Solicitors and fourth nationally based on client reviews. Mike Leeman, Managing Partner and Head of Crime at the firm, commented on Darren’s accomplishment, stating “Darren’s qualification is a fantastic achievement and one that reflects the commitment and professionalism he brings to the department every day. We are incredibly proud of him. Higher Rights qualifications require significant dedication and advocacy ability, and Darren thoroughly deserves this success.”
This milestone represents a significant advancement for Bell Lamb & Joynson as it continues to invest in advocacy, client representation, and access to justice in the North West.
