Ansons Law strengthens team with Philip Round

Ansons Law has appointed Philip Round, a leading Black Country finance lawyer, to enhance banking services
Midlands-based legal firm Ansons Law has made a significant move by appointing Philip Round as the director and head of banking and structured finance. Renowned as one of the best-known corporate lawyers in the Midlands, Round joins Ansons after a lengthy tenure at George Green LLP, where he specialised in banking and structured finance. This strategic hire is part of Ansons’ long-term growth plans, bolstering their existing banking and finance services for business clients.
Martin De Ridder, managing director of Ansons Law, highlighted Round's esteemed reputation within the region, stating, "Philip is one of the most respected corporate and structured finance lawyers in the region, and clients trust him. His arrival strengthens the banking and finance work we already do for business clients and their lenders." De Ridder further noted the natural alignment between Round’s expertise and Ansons’ ambition, especially with the recent establishment of their Dudley office.
Round's recruitment follows last month’s hire of Johnathan Dudley, a seasoned accountant known for his extensive experience at Crowe LLP. Dudley will serve as Ansons’ strategic consultant, advising on the firm’s growth initiatives. Round expressed his enthusiasm for joining the firm during this dynamic period, stating, "I'm delighted to be joining Ansons at this exciting moment. Ansons has grown phenomenally across the Midlands, and the success of the Dudley office shows what can be achieved with a genuine commitment to the Black Country in the form of a physical office populated by real-life lawyers eager to speak face to face with clients."
With a substantial track record in advising lenders, corporates, and entrepreneurs on structured finance, secured lending, and corporate transactions, Round is poised to make a significant impact at Ansons. His expertise in complex financial arrangements and restructuring has been recognised by prominent legal rankings; he is recommended by The Legal 500 and ranked Band 2 by Chambers and Partners for his work with SMEs and owner-managed businesses in the West Midlands. Notably, one client remarked that Round "always takes the time to understand and address my concerns," while another described him as "very diligent with an amazing eye for detail."
As part of his new role, Philip Round will engage with clients across Ansons' four offices, located in Lichfield, Cannock, Sutton Coldfield, and Dudley, ensuring that the firm continues to enhance its presence and service offering in the region.
