AI lawyer achieves historic court win

A freelancer wins a court case aided by a regulated AI lawyer, marking a legal milestone
In a landmark victory for legal technology, Garfield AI, the world's first regulator-authorised AI law firm, has enabled a freelancer to win a court trial regarding unpaid fees. This case represents the first-ever court win supported by a regulated AI lawyer globally, showcasing the potential for AI to transform access to justice.
The claimant, Tamires Camal Taquidir, provided HR-related services to a hospitality business, but faced obstacles in recovering approximately £7,000 due to failed attempts to resolve the matter amicably. Seeking assistance from Garfield AI, she was able to generate the necessary pre-action correspondence and prepare for court proceedings effectively. The defendant appointed a traditional law firm that represented them at every stage, including the trial, creating a distinctly modern legal battleground.
Garfield AI's involvement extended beyond paperwork; they facilitated document production, prepared four witness statements, and created trial bundles, ensuring a robust legal strategy. Following a three-hour trial at Wandsworth County Court on 14 May 2026, the court ruled in favour of Taquidir, awarding her the full amount and dismissing the counterclaim.
Taquidir expressed her thoughts on the experience, stating, “I was owed money for work I had done, but it felt like the process of recovering it could be too stressful, expensive and time-consuming. Garfield made it possible for me to pursue the claim and keep going.” Indeed, her triumph exemplifies how AI-enabled litigation support can merge with skilled human advocacy.
Dominic Li, the junior barrister representing Taquidir, highlighted the significance of collaboration between technology and legal expertise. He stated, “This was a hard-fought small claim that turned on the existence and terms of an oral agreement. Garfield AI’s preparation helped ensure the case was presented clearly and efficiently, while the advocacy at trial remained essential and a fundamentally human exercise.”
Philip Young, CEO and Co-Founder of Garfield AI, heralded the achievement as a pivotal moment, noting, “This is a landmark moment, not just for Garfield AI, but for access to justice.” He described how previous complexities often forced businesses to write off debts, emphasising how AI complemented the judicial process by making it more accessible and cost-effective.
CTO and Co-Founder Daniel Long echoed these sentiments, declaring, “This case shows what legal AI can do in the real world. It is not about gimmicks or replacing lawyers. It is about giving people and businesses the tools to enforce their rights when the traditional route would be too slow, too costly or too complex.”
With over 600 claims initiated on their platform in just over a year and more than £500,000 recovered for users, Garfield AI continues to gain momentum in the legal realm, proving that technology can empower individuals and small businesses to seek justice in an increasingly complex landscape.
