The Ministry of Justice has been accused of playing “fast and loose†with the figures behind its civil legal aid cuts and underestimating the number of victims by more than 150,000.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority is set to introduce tighter ownership suitability requirements for alternative business structures to minimise the risk of criminals getting involved in ABSs, the regulator has confirmed.
More than 600 law firms have applied to join the Law Society's conveyancing scheme (CQS). A spokesman for the society said that, by the end of last week, 610 firms had applied to join the scheme with 17 accredited.
