Weil expands secondaries practice with partner hire

Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP has announced the appointment of Charles Cooper-Isow as a partner in its Private Equity practice, significantly expanding its secondaries platform
Joining from Kirkland & Ellis LLP, Cooper-Isow brings extensive experience in representing sponsor clients and their portfolio companies with complex liquidity solutions. His practice covers a wide array of secondaries transactions, which includes GP-led secondaries, continuation fund transactions, preferred equity investments, and traditional LP portfolio transactions.
Barry Wolf, Weil's Executive Partner expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled that Charlie is joining Weil’s secondaries platform as we continue to advise clients in meeting the rising demand for liquidity and in the active management of their portfolios.” This strategic hire follows another significant addition, Simon Saitowitz, who rejoined Weil a year ago and is known for being highly influential in London’s secondaries market.
Michael J. Aiello, Chairman of Weil’s Corporate Department remarked, “Weil’s cross-border secondaries platform is growing rapidly with innovative lawyers like Charlie strengthening our best-in-class private capital platform in response to client demand for sophisticated secondaries advice and seamless multijurisdictional execution. No firm delivers this at the level Weil does.”
Marco Compagnoni, co-head of Weil’s global Private Equity group, added, “We are delighted to be expanding our top-quality platform, with our existing star talent Simon Saitowitz now joined by Charlie, who further deepens our market-leading capability in complex secondaries deals and who strengthens our multidisciplinary Private Equity team, particularly on GP-led work.”
Weil's Private Equity practice is recognised as a global leader, catering to some of the most prominent private equity funds and financial investors, and is a crucial hub for advising clients on both domestic and cross-border matters. With an enhanced secondaries practice, Weil is well-positioned to navigate the increasingly complex demands of the market, ensuring clients receive expert guidance in securing liquidity and optimising their portfolios.
Founded in 1931, Weil has consistently provided high-quality legal services and has become a pioneer in various practice areas including Private Equity, with a significant international presence that includes around 250 lawyers in its London office alone
