Thomson Snell & Passmore enjoys growth

Thomson Snell & Passmore reports a 5.2% increase in fees as Richard Ellard becomes Senior Partner
Law firm Thomson Snell & Passmore has announced its latest year-end results, showcasing an impressive 5.2% annual increase in fees billed. This achievement aligns with the appointment of Richard Ellard as the new Senior Partner, succeeding Joanna Pratt, who held the role for the past six years. The firm has experienced a substantial 53% increase in fees billed over the last six years, climbing from £24.6 million in the 2020/21 financial year to £35.6 million for the year ending 5 June 2026.
This 13th consecutive year of growth underscores the firm's ambition and ongoing investment in its people, technology, and client service. As a strong, independent entity, Thomson Snell & Passmore is well-positioned to control its strategy and long-term direction, enabling further expansion. Over the past year, significant efforts have been made to strengthen expertise in strategic growth areas, addressing needs in sectors such as banking and finance, planning, real estate disputes, probate, and trust and tax management.
Looking ahead, the firm is dedicated to maintaining this momentum, supported by a high-performance culture and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service. Richard Ellard, the newly appointed Senior Partner, reflects on the firm’s success, stating, “These results reflect the strength of our strategy and collective ambition. We have achieved sustained organic growth through the determination and hard work of a lot of excellent people at the firm." He added, “As we enter this next phase, we have ambitious plans and we will continue to grow and thrive."
Ellard also acknowledged the challenges within the legal sector, explaining how changing client expectations and market consolidation are reshaping the landscape. “As a strong, independent firm, we are well positioned to respond to these shifts,” he remarked. Ellard concluded his thoughts with gratitude, saying, “As I take over as Senior Partner, I want to thank Joanna Pratt for her hard work and leadership over the last six years.”
