Taylor Emmet enhances family law team

Taylor Emmet has appointed Richard Buckley as a partner, enhancing its family law team’s capabilities in mediation and dispute resolution
Award-winning law firm Taylor Emmet is making significant strides in its family law department with the recent appointment of Richard Buckley as a partner. Buckley brings a wealth of experience in private family law, particularly in aiding clients to resolve disputes outside of the courtroom through mediation. His work will be instrumental in establishing a dedicated family mediation practice at the firm, allowing clients to explore various options while dealing with issues like separation and divorce.
Specialising in complex financial settlements, private children disputes, and pre- and post-nuptial agreements, Richard is a qualified collaborative lawyer and an accredited family mediator since 2016. He has always been an advocate for non-court dispute resolutions, aiming to help families achieve practical outcomes while reducing the emotional and financial strain that often accompanies legal proceedings. Commenting on his new role, Richard Buckley stated “Taylor Emmet is one of the strongest legal brands across the Sheffield City Region and the firm has an outstanding Family Law team with a reputation that is second to none across the region. The opportunity to join that team was too good to let pass.”
Working alongside fellow partner Lucy Rodgers, Richard is eager to create a comprehensive family mediation practice. He expressed that his approach has always been about prioritising clients' needs, “understanding what matters most to them and helping them achieve the best possible outcomes, whether through court proceedings or non-court dispute resolution.” He is enthusiastic about the potential to develop constructive dispute resolution practices, illustrating his commitment to helping families resolve their conflicts amicably.
Michaela Evans, Head of Family at Taylor Emmet, remarked on the positive influence of Richard’s appointment, saying “Richard’s appointment is a fantastic addition to our Family Law team and supports our commitment to providing clients with the highest standard of advice and support at what can be a challenging time in their lives.” She emphasised that his background in family mediation and collaboration will be invaluable in enhancing their current services and ensuring clients have access to the most effective solutions tailored to their needs.
Richard’s extensive qualifications extend to his involvement with the Resolution membership organisation and his role on the South Yorkshire Resolution Committee. He actively participates in initiatives like the Northern Lights Conference, aimed at promoting a holistic approach to family dispute resolution, and is a founding member of the Northern Resolve project, which fosters collaboration among family law professionals to improve outcomes for clients.
His credentials have not gone unnoticed, as demonstrated by his recent recognition in the Legal 500 rankings for 2027, where he was highlighted as a Leading Partner for Family Law in the Elsewhere in Yorkshire category. The directory commended his dedication to constructive legal practices and collaborative efforts in helping families avoid the courtroom.
Richard Buckley’s induction into Taylor Emmet not only underscores the firm’s adherence to providing specialised legal counsel but also enriches the array of supportive options available for clients navigating crucial family matters with confidence.
