Switalskis’ court of protection team expands with new appointments and achievements

By

Switalskis is proud to announce the addition of three new members and a significant qualification achievement within its Court of Protection Health and Welfare (CoP) team

This growing team, now 24 strong, specialises in providing legal services and support for individuals lacking mental capacity to make decisions for themselves, focusing on ensuring their clients receive appropriate living arrangements and support tailored to their assessed needs.

Joel Costa, who initially joined Switalskis’ CoP team as a paralegal in 2019, has recently been admitted as a solicitor after completing his training contract at the firm. Joel's transition to a fully qualified solicitor signifies his commitment to assisting individuals facing complex legal issues and ensuring they have access to the necessary support. With his new status, Joel will take on increased responsibilities in client management, case strategy, and legal advocacy.

Additionally, Amandeep Dosanjh, a CoP solicitor at Switalskis since 2020, has achieved qualification as an Accredited Legal Representative (ALR). This designation allows Amandeep to represent protected parties in court proceedings without the need for a litigation friend, enabling her to advocate for their wishes and best interests directly.

Joining the team as paralegals are Lydia Quartley and Aleksandar Cvetkov. Lydia brings experience from a niche Leeds law firm and is passionate about promoting the human rights of individuals lacking mental capacity. Aleksandar, with a Master’s in Law (LLM) and Legal Practice Course (LPC) under his belt, was attracted to Switalskis’ reputation and rapid growth in CoP work. Together, Lydia and Aleksandar will support solicitors in client interactions and document preparation, ensuring that clients' voices are heard and their interests represented.

Alison Kaye, Director of Switalskis’ CoP Health and Welfare department, expressed excitement about the team's growth and the achievements of Joel and Amandeep. She highlighted the firm's commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for professional development. Alison also emphasised the firm's dedication to providing mentorship and guidance to its newest members, Lydia and Aleksandar, as they embark on their journey at Switalskis. With a focus on continued growth and excellence, Switalskis looks forward to the continued success of its CoP team and the positive impact it has on its clients' lives.
