Survey aims to enhance legal aid services

The Legal Aid Agency has launched a survey to better understand legal aid capacity and demand for providers
The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) has initiated a vital survey aimed at all providers holding a live legal aid contract. This survey is open until 1 June 2026, allowing ample time for participants to share their insights and experiences. "Help us improve our understanding of legal aid capacity and demand by sharing your knowledge and experience," the LAA stated, highlighting the importance of this data in shaping future legal aid services.
The insights gathered from this survey will assist the Ministry of Justice and the LAA in developing a more detailed understanding of market capacity and demand for legal aid services. They also aim to address and highlight the current challenges faced by providers. A higher participation rate will increase the quality and value of the insights obtained, making the results beneficial for all involved in the legal aid sector.
Providers that hold a live legal aid contract should have received an email on the survey's launch date, containing a link for each office. These emails were directed to the designated staff member in each firm, responsible for liaising with the LAA. The survey link was sent from ProviderSurvey@justice.gov.uk, and if a provider did not receive the link, they are encouraged to check their junk or spam folders. Any queries regarding the survey can be directed to the LAA Insights Team at the same email address.
In addition to the survey, the LAA will host several drop-in sessions for providers to engage and ask questions. These sessions are scheduled for Tuesday 5 May 2026 from 4:30pm to 5:30pm, Thursday 7 May 2026 from 9:30am to 1:30pm, Tuesday 12 May 2026 from 4:30pm to 5:30pm, Thursday 14 May 2026 from 9:30am to 10:30am, and Thursday 28 May 2026 from 9:30am to 10:30am. Invitations for these sessions will be sent to providers after the survey link has been distributed.
Overall, this survey represents an important opportunity for legal aid providers to contribute valuable feedback that can influence the future landscape of legal aid services in the UK.
