Solicitor General to refer Digwa’s case

The Solicitor General has referred Vickrum Digwa’s murder sentence to the Court of Appeal for review
The Solicitor General Ellie Reeves KC has officially referred the sentence of Vickrum Digwa, who was convicted of murdering Henry Nowak, to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme. This referral allows the Court of Appeal to evaluate whether the sentence imposed on Digwa was indeed unduly lenient and if it warrants an increase.
The Solicitor General, Ellie Reeves KC MP expressed her deep concern regarding the case, stating that “This case horrified me, and I know that feeling is shared by the British public.” She emphasised the need to address the challenging questions surrounding the police's handling of Henry Nowak's murder, while also affirming her responsibility to review Digwa’s sentence for his crimes. Reeves explained that after careful consideration, she felt compelled to take the decision to refer the case to the Court of Appeal.
Reeves added, “No sentence can ever undo the devastation that Henry’s family have suffered, or fill the void left by his loss. But I hope this referral goes some way towards bringing them the justice they deserve.” The outcome of this referral will undoubtedly be closely monitored, as it represents a crucial step in the pursuit of justice for Henry Nowak's family.
