Shepherd and Wedderburn has achieved nine years of continuous growth with substantial investments and staff rewards
Shepherd and Wedderburn has reported turnover of £83.1 million for the year ended 30 April 2026, marking an increase of over 6% from the previous year and the firm’s ninth consecutive year of growth. Net profit rose to £36.7 million, showing a 2% improvement that builds upon a remarkable 20% increase in the prior year.
Andy Hall, who took over as the firm’s new Managing Partner on 1 May, stated, “This sustained performance reflects the strength of our client relationships, the quality of our work, the commitment of our people, and our continued focus on delivering high-quality service and value for clients across our core sectors.” The firm has been actively involved in several notable transactions across both the UK and international markets, showcasing its breadth of expertise.
Some highlights of their work include advising the City of Edinburgh Council on the £1.3 billion Granton Waterfront regeneration project, assisting the Government of Jersey with the £710 million Phase 1 Overdale Acute Hospital project, and facilitating an investment of £400 million into the Sizewell C nuclear project for the Nuclear Liabilities Fund. Other significant transactions include the third buy-in transaction for A.G. Barr's pension scheme with Canada Life and the acquisition of Cameron House Hotel and Resort for Victory Group.
Despite the challenging market conditions, Hall remarked, “Our sector-led approach brings together deep expertise and collaborative teams who are fully aligned with our clients’ ambitions, enabling us to support them on complex and strategically important projects.” This successful approach not only maintained client trust but also encouraged internal growth, with five promotions to Partner and two to Legal Director. Furthermore, the firm made strategic lateral hires to enhance their offerings, including the addition of Marcus Wright and Donald Smith as Partners in English Real Estate and Corporate Finance respectively.
In line with its commitment to its staff, Shepherd and Wedderburn will distribute a bonus equivalent to 4% of annual salary to all employees, alongside discretionary individual performance bonuses. This initiative reflects the firm's dedication to sharing success with its team members.
The firm’s stellar performance also garnered recognition outside its walls, being named Legal Firm of the Year at the British Business Awards 2026 for excellence in business performance, innovation, workplace culture, and client impact. Hall expressed optimism for the future, stating, “With continued strength across our core sectors and a strong pipeline of work, the firm enters the new financial year with confidence and a clear focus on supporting clients in achieving their ambitions.”
Moreover, Shepherd and Wedderburn is reinforcing its market presence with a new office at 1-6 Lombard Street in London and plans to relocate its growing Aberdeen office to the Capitol Building on Union Street later this year, designed to offer high-quality amenities and views of the city, indicative of the firm’s ongoing commitment to growth and excellence in service delivery
