Ownership changes at Olliers Solicitors

Olliers Solicitors formalises its succession strategy as directors acquire equity stakes to ensure growth
Manchester-based Olliers Solicitors has officially announced a change in ownership as directors Stacey Mabrouk and Ruth Peters have each acquired a 10% equity stake in the leading criminal defence firm. This move is part of a long-term succession strategy aimed at reinforcing the leadership team and securing the firm’s independence and growth trajectory. Since Matthew Claughton gained full control of Olliers in 2018, the firm has achieved remarkable success, tripling its turnover to £6.5 million and establishing a strong reputation in the legal landscape, particularly in high-stakes and pre-charge representation.
Matthew noted the significance of this transition, stating that by including Stacey and Ruth in the equity structure, Olliers enhances its leadership for the future. He expressed pride in their accomplishments, saying, “Stacey and Ruth have been instrumental in the Olliers’ success story. By becoming equity shareholders, they aren't just being rewarded for their past brilliance but are committing to the future of the firm. This is about ensuring Olliers remains independent, ambitious and at the top of its game for the long term.”
With Matthew retaining an 80% share, the new equity arrangement positions the firm for continuous growth and success. Stacey, who began her journey at Olliers as a work experience student, reflected on her career, saying, “To now have an equity stake in the firm is something I’m incredibly proud of. We have built a business that is profitable, independent and growing year on year and this next chapter is about scaling that success while maintaining the legal excellence and client care Olliers is so highly regarded for.”
Ruth, who joined the firm in 2005 and was named the Manchester Legal Awards 2021 Solicitor of the Year, expressed her commitment to the firm’s future. She explained her strategic role as business development director, emphasising the importance of blending high-level criminal defence with innovative marketing techniques. “Taking an equity stake is a very proud moment, but the focus remains the same: ensuring Olliers is the definitive first choice for anyone facing a criminal investigation or prosecution in the UK,” she said.
Olliers Solicitors continues to receive accolades, ranked as a top-tier law firm by the Legal 500 2026 and the Chambers Guide 2026 and recognised as a Times Best Law Firm 2026. The firm has also celebrated eight wins as the Manchester Legal Awards Crime Team of the Year since 2011, solidifying its standing within the legal community as it embarks on this exciting new chapter in its history.
