The latest migration figures published
The Office for National Statics (ONS) published the latest figures on international migration to the UK on 25 May, which concludes that record levels were reached in 2022 due to unprecedented world events and a rise in international students in the aftermath of the pandemic. Long-term immigration, which is defined as those coming into the UK for more than 12 months, rose to 1.2 million for the year ending December 2022 and emigration reached 557,000 people. The ONS is due to launch a public consultation in June on the production of population, migration and social statistics.
