One to watch Jurit LLP enters Legal 500 ranking

By

Up-and-coming law firm Jurit LLP has been recognised as a firm to watch, as it enters Legal 500 rankings for the first time

Established a decade ago, Jurit LLP is a law firm made up of nine experienced senior partners and 22 experienced consultant solicitors, many of whom have worked internationally for leading law firms or in-house for multi-national corporations.

The firm operates with a consultancy model to deliver agile, flexible legal services across a broad range of practice areas, several of which have come to the attention of Legal 500 researchers this year.

Jurit has been recognised as ‘one to watch’ in London for its employment advice to employers – a practice headed up by Partner, Adrian Hoggarth, a former Magic Circle and Top 10 law firm lawyer who joined Jurit to establish its employment practice in 2014.

The team, including consultant solicitors Louise Taft and Fiona Dunger, has acted for big-brand employers at global law firms and as in-house counsel for multi-national corporations.

As a result, there is very little they have not seen, allowing Jurit to provide expert advice in a cost-effective and flexible way.

Founding partner, Anthony Garrod, explains: “Jurit was founded a decade ago using a consultancy model to provide cost-effective, highly commercial legal advice to companies which could not otherwise afford access to lawyers of this calibre.

“Over the years, we have grown to become not just a vital source of support to clients and in-house legal teams, but a competitive opportunity for senior lawyers leaving large firms, who want to continue their careers in a more flexible way from home.”

In 2012, Jurit’s business model was innovative with a traditional partnership, no employees, and low overheads which, according to Garrod, allowed the firm to be flexible in its approach to fees, and to work with clients to control costs.

“Post-pandemic, our way of working from home has become more usual but, as other law firms start to enforce a return to the workplace, we are finding that more and more experienced solicitors want to benefit from the sort of flexibility we can offer. We are starting to see the results of this reflected in our Legal 500 rankings and the calibre of lawyers and clients we continue to attract to the firm.”

Some of these new clients include multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerates to smaller tech start-ups including Opply Limited, PCOT Legal and Sees.ai, all of whom have contributed towards Jurit’s ranking as ‘one to watch’ in the TMT sector.

Headed up by partner, Anthony Garrod, together with experienced lawyers Robert Marcus (partner), Alex Peebles (partner) and Quentin Archer (consultant solicitor), the firm has recently advised an online marketplace on their legal operations, provided advice on a procurement portal for a UAE bank, and advised on the software development for specialist drones.

One area of burgeoning expertise for Jurit which has also been recognised this year, is its private wealth and tax practice, which has allowed the firm to expand its services to support both an individual’s business and private interests.

On the back of the merger with PWT Advice Ltd in 2021, Jurit’s private client practice has become a particular growth area which has seen it rank as ‘one to watch’ in London for its contentious trusts and probate work, and personal tax, trusts and probate expertise.

Partner, Jo Summers, received specific mention on the back of the firm’s work for high-net-worth individuals with complex multi-million-pound multi-jurisdictional estates, and is cited for her ability ‘to make the most complex matters sound simple,’ [Legal 500 2024], meanwhile private client partner Nicola Dudley was also recommended.

Garrod concluded: “It is one thing to believe in your business model and the calibre of work you deliver for clients, but it is another to see it recognised by one of the world’s leading legal directories.

“I truly believe that, for law firms like our own who operate a unique hybrid consultancy model, now is a time of great opportunity.

“Not only can we offer clients unrivalled experience and technical legal excellence from very senior and experienced lawyers, we can do it on the most cost-efficient basis for clients – all whilst giving our lawyers the flexibility to work in a way which suits them.

“It is undoubtedly an exciting time for Jurit as we continue to attract established, reputable lawyers and clients to the firm, and we look forward to pushing our rankings further still as approach the next round of submissions.”
