The government's decision scrap the need for divorcing couples to apportion blame as part of the process was met with near-universal approval from the profession this month. Law Society president Christina Blacklaws dubbed the reform 'long overdue' and said it finally brought the law 'into the 21st century'. Blacklaws supported Justice Secretary David Gauke's view that the old system 'increases conflict between divorcing couples'. '[It] exacerbates tensions between separating couples' and 'for separating parents, it can be much more difficult to focus on the needs of their children', she said. 9 April 2019
