LEGAL PARENTHOOD

Single parents will now be able to apply for a parental order transferring legal parenthood after surrogacy. The Human Fertilisation & Embryology Act 2008 (Remedial) Order 2018 came into force earlier this month and amends the law, which in its previous form only applied to couples. The move follows the president of the High Court's family division Sir James Munby's speech last summer, in which he said: 'We should welcome and applaud' the 'infinite variety of forms' that make up the modern family.
