In a significant move, the independent North East law firm Jacksons has welcomed Laura Wilson as partner and head of employment
This appointment aligns with the firm’s ambitious plan to boost its revenue by 40% over the next three years, particularly as it approaches its 150th anniversary. Laura will play a crucial role in supporting Jacksons' employer clients, focusing on delivering legal advice that caters to businesses of all sizes across the region.
Erica Turner, the firm’s head of legal, expressed excitement about Laura’s appointment, stating that Jacksons is “incredibly proud” of this strategic addition. She highlighted the firm’s commitment to expanding its key specialisms to become the preferred legal advisor for business-focused legal needs. With SMEs accounting for 99.9% of businesses in the North East, it's essential for law firms to adapt to the unique challenges faced by these entities, particularly around employment issues that transcend the realm of large corporations with established HR departments.
Laura brings an extensive background in employment law to the role and has long admired Jacksons' reputation within the North East community. She said, “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Jacksons as partner and head of employment. Having known the firm and many of the team for years, I've always admired Jacksons' reputation, ambition and commitment to both its clients and its people. When the opportunity arose to join the firm, it felt like a natural fit."
Her passion for supporting businesses in Teesside and beyond underscores her commitment to helping them navigate complex employment law landscapes. Laura aims to deliver "pragmatic, responsive and high-quality service" to ensure firms can thrive. She stated, “I'm looking forward to bringing that experience to Jacksons and working alongside such talented colleagues, as we continue to help businesses across the region thrive.”
Laura's entry into the team comes shortly after Sophie Little joined as an associate solicitor, signalling a period of growth for the firm. Erica noted that the addition of both Laura and Sophie heralds an exciting new chapter for Jacksons as they push beyond their anniversary celebrations and aim for further expansion through 2027 and beyond.
With Laura’s extensive expertise in employment law and business immigration, Erica believes Laura's role will not only enhance the legal support for their employer clients but will also be valuable for the senior leadership team. She stated, “Laura is a very well-known and respected employment lawyer in the region, and we are looking forward to working with her to assist our employer clients and help us towards our ambitious growth plans.” The future looks promising for Jacksons as they continue to build on their longstanding legacy and strive for sustained success in the evolving legal landscape.
