JUDICIAL REVIEW

JUDICIAL REVIEW

Senior lawyers have rallied together to emphasise the important role of judicial review in upholding the rule of law. Law Society president Simon Davis, for example, has said: 'The role of the judges is to give effect to the will of parliament and the role of judicial review is to support parliament not to undermine it.' His comments, and those of others, follow a blog by the new attorney general Suella Braverman, who two weeks before her appointment called for politicians to 'take back control' from judges. 'For too long, the Diceyan notion of parliamentary supremacy has come under threat. The political has been captured by the legal. Decisions of an executive, legislative and democratic nature have been assumed by our courts,' she said. 14 February
