HM Land Registry updates email correspondence

HM Land Registry is enhancing security by transitioning to secure links for application-related emails from 23 August 2026
HM Land Registry has announced a significant update to its email correspondence protocol, set to take effect on 23 August 2026. In a move aimed at bolstering security, the organisation will now send application-related correspondence, such as requisitions, letters, and notices, via secure links instead of traditional PDF attachments. "The secure link within the email will remain available for 200 days, giving customers time to access and save documents as required," a spokesperson explained.
When recipients click on the secure link, they will need to input the original email address to gain access. This change allows for added flexibility; if the email is passed on to another team member, they can still retrieve the documents by knowing the original recipient’s email address. To facilitate this transition, HM Land Registry advises customers to whitelist the sending address, hm.land.registry@notifications.service.gov.uk, on their safe senders list to ensure uninterrupted communication.
Despite these new measures, the core elements of the service will remain unchanged. Customers will continue receiving notifications about requisitions, letters, and notices; only the method of document access is being altered. Further updates and reminders will be communicated to customers in advance of the transition date. Importantly, those who access correspondence through HM Land Registry Business Gateway APIs will not be impacted by this change.
This update aligns with recent enhancements to Microsoft’s email software and is intended to maintain the security and reliability of services provided by HM Land Registry. Notably, the emails will be sent using GOV.UK Notify, a secure government platform that has already been in use for over a year for certain notifications.
