Harneys has appointed Esure Wu as counsel in Shanghai, bolstering its Private Wealth team in Asia.
Harneys has taken a significant step to enhance its Private Wealth capabilities in Asia by welcoming Esure Wu as counsel in its Shanghai office. Wu's appointment is part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its cross-border services tailored for high-net-worth clients throughout the region. Esure Wu has built a distinguished career advising ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, alongside trust companies and family offices, in preserving and transferring wealth across borders and generations. His expertise spans a wide range of private wealth matters, including family trusts, private trust companies, and charitable foundations, as well as navigating complex compliance matters such as anti-money laundering (AML) and tax reporting regulations like CRS and FATCA.
Having delivered these services across major international financial centres such as Jersey, Guernsey, and Hong Kong, Wu brings a wealth of experience and an extensive network within the private wealth community, encompassing banks, trust companies, tax professionals, and investment managers. Vicky Lord, Mainland China Managing Partner, commented "We are delighted to welcome Esure to our Private Wealth team in Shanghai. His training across common law, PRC and US legal systems gives him a multi-jurisdictional perspective that few offshore practitioners possess, and his deep experience advising Asian ultra-high-net-worth families on offshore structures is a natural complement to our team."
As the demands of clients increasingly become cross-border, Wu's unique combination of technical expertise and robust relationships within the industry is expected to enhance Harneys’ offerings. The firm's Private Wealth team aims to provide a comprehensive set of advisory services to professional trustees, high-net-worth individuals, financial institutions, and charities, all while ensuring that the offshore aspects of financial structures are adaptable and responsive to the evolving needs of their clients.
