The proposals relate to planning permission for holiday lets in tourist hot spots

The UK government launched a public consultation on proposed new rules that would introduce planning permission for an existing home to be used as a short-term let on 12 April, which aim to support local communities where the amount of holiday lets is preventing local people from accessing affordable housing. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is also due to consider whether to provide home owners with the ability to let out their properties for a maximum number of nights per year without the need for planning permission. The consultation closes on 7 June 2023. In parallel, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has also launched a consultation on the detail of the planned register of short-term lets, which is also open for comments until 7 June 2023.
