Five new solicitor advocates appointed

The Law Society of Scotland welcomes five new solicitor advocates granted rights of audience in a ceremony
On Thursday 20 August, the Law Society of Scotland celebrated the appointment of five new solicitor advocates during a formal ceremony at the prestigious Court of Session. The new appointees, who have earned rights of audience, are Kelly Brotherhood from Clyde and Co, John Callender and Martin Kotsev from Morton Fraser MacRoberts, Scott Flannigan from Anderson Strathern, and David McGowan from Digby Brown. These new advocates join four others introduced in court last month, collectively extending their rights to represent clients in the Court of Session, the United Kingdom Supreme Court, and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
The ceremony saw Law Society President Serena Sutherland invite presiding judge Lord Malcolm to administer the Declaration of Allegiance. Congratulations were abundant as Sutherland remarked, “Many congratulations to our new solicitor advocates. It is an honour to be back in the courts today to celebrate with you and your families." She commended the new appointees for balancing demanding jobs while maintaining busy personal lives, stating, “Each one of our solicitor advocates has juggled demanding jobs and busy personal lives to ensure they can represent their clients in our highest courts. They should be very proud of themselves."
As these solicitors step into a new chapter of their legal careers, the Law Society is committed to supporting them at every stage of their professional journeys.
