Fieldfisher hires Richard Power to enhance energy disputes

Fieldfisher has appointed Richard Power as a partner in its London Dispute Resolution practice effective immediately
On 1 June 2026, European law firm Fieldfisher announced the appointment of Richard Power as a partner in its London Dispute Resolution practice. Power, who joins from Clyde & Co, has extensive experience in handling complex cross-border disputes, particularly focusing on international arbitration and the energy sector. His arrival is part of Fieldfisher’s strategy to strengthen its capabilities in energy disputes, which is one of the firm’s primary sectors globally.
With over 25 years of experience, Power has represented a diverse clientele including key players in the power, renewables, and oil & gas industries. His legal expertise covers a wide range of commercial disputes, from litigation and arbitration to mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. Notably, he has dealt with intricate matters such as power purchase agreements, emissions trading schemes, and energy transition projects.
Fieldfisher’s Dispute Resolution practice is co-led by partners John McElroy and Daniel Hayward, and includes more than 60 partners in the UK and over 450 contentious lawyers internationally. Power’s addition is expected to enhance the firm’s offerings in a growing market, especially given the increasing regulatory and geopolitical complexities clients face today.
Daniel Hayward remarked that “Richard is an outstanding disputes lawyer with a strong reputation in international arbitration and a particularly impressive energy disputes practice.” This underscores the firm's commitment to providing sophisticated legal support in a crucial sector. Power himself expressed enthusiasm about joining Fieldfisher, noting that “Fieldfisher has a highly regarded disputes offering and a clear commitment to the energy sector.”
In recent years, Fieldfisher’s international arbitration team has been involved in several significant cases, such as defending South Sudan in a US$2.7 billion ICC arbitration and securing a favourable award for a state-owned gas distributor. As the energy landscape evolves, the demand for expert legal services in dispute resolution is expected to grow, and Power’s expertise aligns well with this trend.
Overall, Richard Power’s appointment signifies Fieldfisher’s ongoing investment in its disputes practice and energy sector capabilities, equipping the firm to better assist clients in navigating complex legal challenges in both the UK and international markets
