The NHS Litigation Authority (now called NHS Resolution) has revealed it received just five more claims in the year 2018 to 2019 compared to the previous year. Its latest annual reports and accounts reveal that despite the marginal increase, the fees paid to defence solicitors increased by £11m. Obstetric claimants accounted for just 10 percent of the total number of claims but received 50 per cent of the total damages paid out. Orthopaedic surgery claimants accounted for 12 percent of claims but the value of the claims (£216m) was just four per cent of the total. July 2019
