A former chair of Enborne Parish Council is relying on DNA evidence to challenge his conviction of sending a malicious letter to a widow congratulating her on her husband's death days just after his funeral. In April, magistrates imposed a restraining order on Douglas Staples who was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work. He is appealing to Reading Crown Court claiming that DNA analysis will show it was not his saliva on the envelope containing the letter. 17 June 2019
