The Law Society warned that criminal legal aid firms are closing at an alarming rate, and immediate government support is needed to help them survive. The Society's president David Greene said the second stage of the criminal legal aid review must 'focus on ensuring a criminal justice system that delivers a fair trial and justice for all'. He said the role of defence solicitors is crucial, legal aid practitioners must be paid properly and their businesses must be economically viable, 'otherwise the system will collapse'. 21 December 2020
