National firm recruits experienced and future talent to industry first counsel team

Cartwright King has appointed two new barristers and two pupils to its growing bespoke in-house chambers.

With its own in-house counsel, Cartwright King was one of the first firms to offer aspiring barristers the opportunity for pupillage recognised by the Bar Standards Board.

Continuing its expansion, the firm has now added barristers Graham Blower and Paul Fleming to its ranks, along with pupils Richard Purchase and Lucky Thandi.

Blower has practised criminal law for over 35 years, most recently at Argent Chambers. He has acted for both the prosecution and defence on the most serious criminal offences including major organised crime and fraud offences, such as the notable Securitas Tonbridge robbery.

Fleming joins the firm as senior in-house counsel from his own chambers, 37 Park Square, in Leeds. A member of Gray's Inn, Paul has practised in various civil and criminal courts across the UK since 1983.

New pupil Purchase worked as a court advocate prior to starting pupillage. Thandi has extensive experience of the legal industry and Cartwright King's in-house chambers having been a crown court caseworker within its criminal law department.

Purchase and Thandi are now in the second six stage of training with and are set to finish their pupillages in June 2016.

Alwyn Jones, head of the in-house chambers, said: 'We are delighted to be expanding our team with the appointment of professionals of such great calibre. Both Graham and Paul are held in very high regard and have very impressive career histories.

'Richard and Lucky, our budding young barristers, who are both extremely passionate about the criminal justice system, also bring with them a wealth of experience. These appointments will allow us to significantly grow and develop our service.'
