Browne Jacobson partner joins Citizens Advice board

Browne Jacobson's Head of Government, Peter Ware, has been appointed to the National Citizens Advice Trustee Board, taking on a strategic role to assist the charity in its mission to support people facing everyday challenges such as financial hardship and justice access. In his new voluntary capacity, Ware will participate in quarterly board meetings and contribute to several subcommittees, leveraging his extensive experience with local and central government organisations to aid Citizens Advice in shaping its long-term strategic direction and values.

Citizens Advice, known as “the people’s champion”, provides essential support to the public with practical advice on topics including debt management, benefit claims, tenancy rights, employment disputes, and consumer rights. The organisation also actively seeks to enhance government policies and business practices that impact everyday life. Commenting on his new role, Peter Ware stated, “At Browne Jacobson, we are always committed to making a real difference beyond the work we do for our clients. Being appointed as a Trustee for Citizens Advice provides a fresh but equally meaningful way to address some of the biggest issues facing society today. Its mission to give people the knowledge and confidence they need to find their way forward is something I feel strongly about personally, and I am excited about learning how I may be able to help drive these guiding principles so that Citizens Advice can continue to be there for the people who need it most.”

Recognised by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 as a leading expert in public law and procurement, Peter Ware has a proven track record in handling both contentious and non-contentious matters for a diverse range of public and private sector clients. As the initiator of the Next Chapter initiative at Browne Jacobson, he aims to support university students with lived experience of the care system. A recent six-month pilot of the programme, conducted in partnership with Nottingham City Council, successfully equipped four participants with vital skills, knowledge, and confidence to embark on fulfilling careers.

Before joining Browne Jacobson, Peter served as a special projects adviser at Nottinghamshire County Council, showcasing his extensive background in governance. He also advocates for net zero initiatives and played a significant role in developing the Midlands Engine's 10-point plan for Green Growth, in addition to serving as Finance and Membership Secretary of the Procurement Lawyers Association. Citizens Advice assists individuals across England, Wales, and the Channel Islands, offering free and impartial advice through various channels. In 2024–25, the organisation directly helped 2.71 million people and recorded 44 million website visits, supported by over 19,500 trained volunteers across more than 1,900 locations.
