Browne Jacobson leads law firms in volunteering

Browne Jacobson becomes the first law firm to join GoVo, enhancing employee volunteering and community support initiatives
UK and Ireland law firm Browne Jacobson has taken a significant step by becoming the first law firm to back GoVo, a national volunteering effort aimed at connecting millions of volunteers with opportunities across the UK. Developed by the Royal Voluntary Service, GoVo is a digital platform created in collaboration with numerous charities to simplify the process of volunteering. As a founder member, Browne Jacobson will enhance its employee volunteering programme while actively contributing to this nationwide mission.
With over 1,300 employees situated across seven offices, Browne Jacobson’s participation as a founder member of GoVo reflects its commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. Employees will have access to GoVo for Business, allowing them to discover and apply for volunteering opportunities that match their interests and schedules. Beth Dowson, Partner and Community Action co-lead at Browne Jacobson, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “Our people are passionate about making a difference in their local communities and volunteering is a great way to do this.”
This partnership aligns with Browne Jacobson’s comprehensive community engagement strategy, which encompasses pro bono work, fundraising programs, and support for small charities through the Browne Jacobson Charitable Trust. The firm is also pledging to support the Royal Voluntary Service's ambitious 100 Million Hour Movement, which aims to double the amount of workplace volunteering hours by 2028. The initiative seeks to boost employee morale and engagement within companies, addressing the increasing need for volunteers in society.
Carole Urey, Chief Revenue Officer at Royal Voluntary Service, welcomed Browne Jacobson’s involvement, saying, “GoVo represents the next wave of tech-for-good and we’re delighted to welcome Browne Jacobson as a Founder Member.” She highlighted the firm's unique perspective and expertise, which can significantly influence the direction of volunteering initiatives across the UK.
As volunteering rates have conversely shown a steady decline, platforms like GoVo are essential for revitalising community efforts by making volunteering accessible and appealing to a broader audience. With more than 500 roles available in every postcode, individuals can find diverse options that fit seamlessly into their schedules. The aim is to mainstream volunteering, ensuring it becomes a regular and rewarding component of daily life for individuals and teams alike.
Through this collaboration, Browne Jacobson and the Royal Voluntary Service aim to leverage workplace volunteering as a powerful tool for social change while providing meaningful opportunities for employees to contribute positively to their communities.
