Browne Jacobson partners with LawWorks for a targeted pro bono strategy, aligning with firm values for community impact

UK and Ireland-based law firm Browne Jacobson has unveiled a new pro bono strategy in collaboration with LawWorks, a prominent legal charity. The initiative aims to amplify the firm's community impact by providing free legal advice to eligible small and medium-sized not-for-profit organizations. Browne Jacobson's strategy focuses on targeted, measurable pro bono activities aligned with the firm's core values, including addressing societal issues and promoting inclusion and fairness.

By joining LawWorks' not-for-profit program, Browne Jacobson plans to identify areas where its legal expertise can be voluntarily deployed for worthy causes. The move signifies a shift towards a more structured approach to pro bono work, ensuring it aligns with the firm's practice areas and values.

Browne Jacobson, with over 1,000 employees across seven offices, emphasizes its commitment to making a positive impact on society. The firm ranks among the top five employers for social mobility in the 2023 Social Mobility Employer Index. Managing Partner Richard Medd expressed excitement about the partnership with LawWorks, highlighting pro bono work as a key component of the firm's community action plan.

The pro bono strategy builds upon Browne Jacobson's existing community action program, which raises funds for local charity partners and includes initiatives like the Browne Jacobson Charitable Trust and a partnership with the National Literacy Trust.

Beth Dowson, Legal Director in the corporate tax team and a member of the firm's pro bono steering group, emphasized the importance of the dedicated pro bono strategy. She stated that it ensures the firm's pro bono efforts are aligned with practice expertise and core values, creating a more impactful and intentional approach to community service.

LawWorks, supported by the Law Society, serves as the largest solicitors' pro bono group in England and Wales, boasting a membership network of over 150 law firms and in-house legal teams. Rebecca Wilkinson, Chief Executive at LawWorks, welcomed Browne Jacobson as a member, expressing anticipation for the collaboration as the firm launches and develops its new pro bono strategy. The partnership aims to offer crucial legal advice, making a meaningful impact on individuals' lives and communities in need.
