Brabners retains B Corp certification

Brabners has successfully retained its B Corp certification, showcasing improved social and environmental performance
Brabners, the leading independent law firm, has announced that it has successfully retained its B Corp certification after undergoing a comprehensive evaluation of its ongoing social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. This rigorous assessment resulted in a significant increase in its B Corp assessment framework score, highlighting the firm’s commitment to a responsible business agenda. As Simon Lewis, Partner and Head of Brabners' Sustainability and Environmental Group, noted, “The improvement in our B Corp assessment framework score reflects the focused and systematic approach we have adopted across the firm – and the purposeful engagement and contribution from all our colleagues.”
The enhanced score represents progress made through innovative environmental initiatives, community and social impact investments, and robust governance related to sustainability programmes. In recent years, Brabners has strengthened its environmental commitments by forming cross-sector partnerships. Among these is the renewal of its long-term investment in the Kingsdale Head peatland restoration project, which is located in the Yorkshire Dales and prevents approximately 360 tonnes of carbon from entering the atmosphere each year. Furthermore, the firm has launched community allotment partnerships with Liverpool’s Rotunda and Manchester’s Counselling & Family Centre to bolster local engagement.
Brabners has also met its commitment to providing 365 days of pro bono support. The firm has contributed over £210,000 to 70 charities through The Brabners Foundation and, compared to 2019 levels, has reduced paper usage by 3.1 million sheets and waste by 47 tonnes in 2024. To coincide with its recertification, Brabners is unveiling the next phase of its sustainability strategy, aiming to achieve net zero emissions by 2040, well ahead of the UK government’s target of 2050.
The roadmap focuses on reducing emissions across both the firm’s operations and its supply chain while embedding sustainability into its corporate culture and client work. Key strategies include transitioning to a rail-first approach for business travel, employing 100% recycled paper, and implementing a sustainable procurement policy across its supply chain. Simon Lewis elaborated, “This recertification also reminds us that harder challenges may still lie ahead — particularly in addressing Scope 3 emissions across our supply chain. Our net zero strategy tackles these challenges head-on, with deliverable targets that prioritise real, net reductions in emissions.”
Robert White, the CEO at Brabners, shared the firm’s overarching mission, stating, “Our mission to ‘make the difference’ reflects that – as a responsible and purpose-led business – we recognise our responsibility to play our part in building a more sustainable future.” He highlighted that this commitment permeates their client work, relationships, and community engagements. White expressed confidence in the firm’s direction: “Our latest B Corp recertification gives us confidence that we are making a substantial change, while recognising we can always do more.”
The firm’s achievements coincide with notable commercial success; Brabners has reported record revenues of £60.2 million and pre-tax profits of £20.3 million in FY2025, marking the eighth consecutive year of growth while announcing its expansion into the London market.
