Blackhurst Budd celebrates 150 years of service

Blackpool solicitors Blackhurst Budd are celebrating 150 years of dedicated service to the community in 2026
In the vibrant town of Blackpool, a significant milestone is set to be reached as Blackhurst Budd, a well-established law firm, celebrates 150 years since its founding. Established in 1876 by William Blackhurst on Church Street, the firm has long been intertwined with the local community, reflecting a deep-rooted relationship that has stood the test of time. This milestone coincides with Blackpool’s own development, having been granted municipal borough status in the same year when the town was home to just over 7,000 residents.
Throughout its illustrious history, Blackhurst Budd has witnessed the evolution of Blackpool, from the expansion of the iconic promenade and the construction of the Blackpool Tower to the challenges presented by two World Wars, and onto the contemporary era. Despite the many changes in socio-economic conditions and the legal landscape, the firm has consistently offered unwavering support to local families and businesses.
Warren Spencer, Managing Director of Blackhurst Budd, emphasised the significance of the anniversary by stating “One hundred and fifty years in practice is not just a milestone for the firm, it reflects a long-standing relationship with the people and the community we serve.” He further elaborated on the firm’s commitment, noting “We have advised generations of families at the moments that matter most, from buying their first home to planning for the future, and through some of life’s more difficult situations.”
The Blackhurst name has been an intrinsic part of Blackpool’s professional landscape since the 19th century. Over the years, the firm has operated under various partnerships, enduring as successive generations have shaped its identity. Alongside it was John Budd & Co, a reputable firm founded in the 20th century, which also contributed to the legal profession in Blackpool.
In 2009, Blackhurst Budd was formed through the merger of Blackhursts LLP and John Budd & Co, incorporating LSC Solicitors and, later, Coope, Purvis and Taylor. This union brought together some of the town’s most respected legal practitioners under one banner, enhancing its capacity to serve the community.
Today, Blackhurst Budd provides a comprehensive array of legal services, including family law, residential and commercial conveyancing, wills and probate, and commercial matters. With a large and seasoned team, the firm is recognised as one of the most trusted legal names on the Fylde Coast, continuing to attract clients from diverse backgrounds.
As the firm approaches the anniversary, it has exciting plans to commemorate this remarkable journey, including the launch of initiatives highlighting its heritage and role within the community. One such initiative will be a “Blackpool Then & Now” competition on their Facebook account, inviting residents to share photographs and stories reflecting the evolution of the town.
Looking ahead, Blackhurst Budd remains steadfast in its commitment to providing trusted legal advice, ensuring that it continues to fulfil its crucial role for the people and businesses of Blackpool, just as it has done for the past 150 years.
