Bellevue Law has appointed Sara Mason as Senior Consultant, enhancing their workforce law services for healthcare professionals
In a strategic move to bolster its workplace law offerings, Bellevue Law has appointed Sara Mason as a Senior Consultant within its Workplace Law team, marking a significant expansion into the realm of healthcare regulation. This appointment allows healthcare professionals to benefit from senior-level expertise in various critical areas, including professional regulation, investigations, professional conduct, and inquests, as well as related legal proceedings.
Sara Mason is highly accomplished, bringing over 30 years of extensive experience in advising and representing healthcare practitioners such as doctors, nurses, and dentists on complex regulatory and medico-legal matters. Having been called to the Bar in 1992 and later admitted as a solicitor in 1997, her background includes a strong focus on defending healthcare professionals during regulatory investigations and proceedings before major councils including the General Medical Council (GMC), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and General Dental Council (GDC).
Her diverse practice spans the full range of professional regulatory matters, encompassing fitness to practise investigations, Interim Orders Tribunal proceedings, appeals, and judicial reviews in the High Court. Mason's expertise further extends to advising on investigations related to Mental Health Act (MHPS), NHS England Performer List issues, and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) proceedings. Moreover, she is well-versed in representing healthcare professionals during inquests, guiding clients through all stages of coronial processes, from evidence review and witness preparation to advocacy during hearings.
In addition to her work in regulatory matters, Sara has also represented clinicians in criminal investigations and prosecutions involving overlapping professional and reputational concerns. Prior to joining Bellevue Law, she served as a Consultant Solicitor and dedicated over two decades to MDU Services Limited, complemented by earlier experience at Hempsons Solicitors.
Academically, Sara holds a Master’s degree with Distinction in Medical Law and Ethics from King’s College London, where she was also awarded the Sir Eric Scowen Prize for her academic excellence. Her professional commitment sees her involved in the wider healthcare and regulatory law community, acting as a Trustee and Secretary of the UK Clinical Ethics Network and as a Committee Member of the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers.
