BARBRI acquires Lega to enhance AI fluency

BARBRI's acquisition of Lega aims to provide practical AI learning opportunities for law students and professionals
BARBRI, a global leader in legal education, has announced its acquisition of Lega, a platform focused on fostering artificial intelligence (AI) fluency among law students, legal professionals, and law firms. The integration of Lega's experiential AI learning model into BARBRI's existing portfolio marks a significant milestone in developing practical AI skills in the legal profession. The current landscape in the legal field is evolving rapidly, necessitating more than just introductory knowledge of new tools; a robust foundation in practical application is essential for developing the judgment and confidence to use AI effectively.
The acquisition signifies a shift from theoretical discussions about AI to active engagement grounded in trusted content and data-driven strategies. Lucie Allen, Co-CEO of BARBRI, expressed, "BARBRI has been building the AI knowledge and competency foundation for the legal profession through SkillBurst and BARBRI AI courses, alongside broader professional education offerings such as BARBRI CLE/CPE and Prep for Practice. Lega brings a highly practical model that helps learners move from AI awareness to AI fluency. Together, we are committed to equipping law schools, law firms, and legal professionals for an AI-driven profession."
Since its inception in 2023, Lega has created a generative AI lab to encourage experimentation and application for leading law firms. Notably, it has organised hands-on AI workshops for prestigious Am Law 100 firms and has participated in legal technology conferences and innovation summits. One of its standout projects, the Client AI Lab with Fasken, earned the Most Inspiring Showcase Audience Award at the 2026 Skills Law Showcase. Christian Lang, Founder and CEO of Lega, stated, “We built Lega around a simple belief: legal professionals need safe, practical, hands-on ways to explore what AI makes possible. Through our work with firms, schools, and legal teams, we've learned that success isn't about finding the right AI tool. It's about building the fluency, judgment, and confidence to use AI effectively. Joining BARBRI means we can bring experiential AI learning to every law school, every firm, and every professional ready to lead what comes next."
Looking forward, BARBRI and Lega plan to expand their offerings of experiential AI workshops, simulations, hackathons, and lab-style learning experiences. These initiatives will connect law firm practitioners and law students, addressing real legal challenges and fostering a unified approach to legal education and practice based on shared AI competency. Lega’s innovative learning model will be incorporated throughout BARBRI's product suite, aiming to deliver comprehensive learning experiences globally. With BARBRI's extensive reach and established reputation in legal education, Lega’s hands-on approach can be scaled to benefit legal students, professionals, and organisations worldwide. Following the acquisition, Christian Lang will join BARBRI as Head of Innovation, taking charge of AI skill development strategies. Financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
